Over the past two weeks, we’ve been peeling back layers together and I thank you for staying with me through some very dense material – it’s worth it, I promise!

First, we discovered one of the most liberating truths I know:
There is nothing wrong with you.
➡️ See Part 1 HERE

Then we explored the extraordinary ways your nervous system learned to protect you through perfectionism, people-pleasing, overworking, overthinking, self-abandonment, and striving.
➡️ See Part 2 HERE

It is my hope that through this information, maybe for the first time, you saw these patterns not as personal failures but as brilliant adaptations and that you could offer yourself what is the most necessary ingredient to healing, Compassion.

The previous two installments have focused on the WHY of our often befuddling and frustrating behavior through the lens of the nervous system.  Today we’re going to pivot from understanding to practice.

And that first step always begins with Awareness.

So today, this 3rd installment is an invitation into a different way of being. It answers the question: “If awareness is where healing begins…how do I actually hear myself?”

Here we go: and this will feel both incredibly simple… and perhaps, incredibly difficult.

We’re talking about pausing, resting.

Here’s the deal:
We’ve Become a Culture That Never Stops
Our world celebrates speed, productivity, achievement and optimization.
We’re rewarded for doing more, answering faster, pushing harder, staying connected, staying busy.

And in that hustle, somehow exhaustion has become a badge of honor.

Many of us don’t even know how to rest anymore. And if we’re honest… rest feels uncomfortable, sometimes even unsafe.

Have you ever noticed that the moment you finally sit down…
Your mind gets louder?
The to-do list starts scrolling.
You remember the email.
The laundry.
The thing you forgot.
The conversation you’re replaying.
The way you should have handled something differently.
Or perhaps you simply feel guilty.
Like you should be doing something more productive.

Sweet friend, this is simply because your nervous system has spent years believing that staying busy is what keeps you safe. And its told you that this is how you belong.

For many of us, stillness isn’t familiar (Um, hello? why I am obsessed with this? Teach what you need to learn!) And our nervous systems almost always prefer what’s familiar over what’s freeing.

Remember, “Your nervous system will choose a familiar hell over an unfamiliar heaven.”

You Cannot Hear Your Own Wisdom Over Constant Noise.

When we’ve spent years listening to everyone else’s expectations, our own voice becomes very quiet.

Instead of asking,
What do I want? We ask, “What will they think?”

Instead of asking, “What feels true for me?” We ask,”What should I do?”

Instead of asking, “What do I need?” We ask, “What does everyone else need from me?”

Without realizing it, we’ve outsourced our inner authority.
To culture.
To family expectations.
To achievement.
To social media.
To old stories.
To fear.
To everyone except ourselves.
And eventually…
We forget our own voice altogether.

Awareness Is an Act of Returning
This is why awareness matters so much. It interrupts autopilot.
It creates a sacred space between what you’ve always done…
…and what you might choose next.

That tiny pause is where healing begins.
Because in that pause, you can gently ask:
“What am I feeling right now?”
“What am I afraid might happen?”
“Whose voice am I listening to?”
“Is this my truth…
…or is this an old survival strategy?”
Those questions aren’t meant to shame you.
They’re invitations home.

Rest Is Not a Reward
I think one of the biggest lies many women have inherited is this:
“I’ll rest when…”
When the house is clean.
When the work is finished.
When everyone else is okay.
When I earn it.

But what if rest isn’t something you earn?
What if rest is one of the ways you remember who you are?

Because when your nervous system begins to experience moments of safety and when we teach it that rest is safe and valuable, it becomes easier to notice. Easier to choose. Easier to respond instead of react.

Rest isn’t laziness.
It’s regulation.
It’s nourishment.
It’s resistance against a culture that profits from convincing women they are never enough.

The Woman You’re Looking For Is Already Here
I often ask clients is this:
“If fear wasn’t making this decision … What would love choose?”

Love will almost never choose perfection, obligation, guilt. fear.

It will always Peace. Compassion. Freedom

Because underneath all of the conditioning … underneath the people-pleasing, the striving, the survival strategies…

There is the real you; the woman who has always known her dreams, ability, wisdom, boundaries, joy, opinions, needs.

She has a voice and has simply been waiting for enough quiet to be heard.

This Week’s Invitation
Don’t add another thing to your to-do list.
Instead…
Remove one.
Create five quiet minutes.
Leave your phone inside.
Take a walk.
Sit with your coffee before opening your email.
Breathe before answering.
Pause before saying yes.
Notice what arises.

We’re not looking to fix or judge here at all – this is just to learn how to witness ourselves with kindness.

This first step of awareness isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about remembering who you’ve always been beneath the noise. And we get there through the pause, through rest.

Next week, we’ll close this series by talking about what healing actually looks like—not perfection, not becoming fearless, but learning to create enough safety within yourself that authenticity begins to feel more natural than performance.

Until then, may you remember this:

You do not have to hustle for your worth.
You do not have to earn your rest.
You do not have to keep abandoning yourself to belong.

Sometimes the bravest thing a woman can do is become quiet enough to hear her own voice again.

And when she does, everything begins to change.

With love,
Jill ♥️
